This was the first piece of work i produced.
The piece itself has no planned structure and displays the snake skin as a whole. i wanted to focus on the beauty of the genetic make up of the skin. The piece itself displays a rawness and the material itself isn’t immediately obvious simultaneously the conceptual work behind it is vague.
I have displayed the skin in a way to overlap each piece linking to the constriction of a of a snake. The wooden board i have used behind highlights the transparency of the skin as a whole and that is something i would like to develop by maybe looking into using perspex as a way in which to display.
The skin itself works as a metaphor of renewal, it displays the passing of time but also looks into the fragility of skin itself whilst also relating to the idea of metamorphis. I wanted to display the skin where it was exposed as i aspire to make comparisons between the human form and the snake skin where similar to a snake skin is the largest organ of the body and has the ability to repair whilst also acting as an armour as it protects the body against pathogens whilst also regulating temperature.
The next stage of my piece will be to look deeper into the exposure of skin such as texture under light and the break down of layers. I will attempt to display the passing of time looking into our own mortality.
